Double Winner - Porsche Parade ’08

Who would have known? Fifty years later...

...after trading in my 1956 MGA (British Racing Green) with knock-off stock wheels and many happy miles, I would still own my first and only Porsche, this 1958 356a - 1600n in #5711 Orange. I purchased it from VernHagestad Volkswagen in Denver Colorado after being delivered from Hoffman Motors in New York City. I paid...let’s just say it was a lot at that time, and needless to say I had to save more than a few very hard earned pennies to buy it.

The history of the car spans some six decades, involves places and travels in over 40 of the 50 States, encompasses hundreds of thousands of miles, and includes a wealth of fond and vivid memories for my family and me.

The car has visited many an SCCA race, was an entrant at some of the earliest Porsche Parades, and was even a part of my wedding day, and yes, I am still very happily married to the same lovely lady after all these years...life is good.

After spending many tired years in storage (sometimes covered with cardboard boxes) in the back of my garage at our home on the Gulf Coast of Florida, this very special car had seen better days...other things in life took priority. For most of 2004 and early 2005 my family started to poke, prod, persuade and almost threaten me to give this beauty her due and get her restored properly, we finally embarked on a three (plus) year makeover in early 2005. The result...it all came together over and above anything I could or did imagine. I am truly thankful to my family for pushing me to get this started and seeing it through to completion - thanks everyone, I love you all.

So now to the good stuff, sit back, surf the site, and join me in wishing this very special 356a a happy fiftieth birthday!

Enjoy the ride...
